Research Notes:

Hinrich Gerhard (Henry Gerard) Bohlsen ran away from home when he was 13 yeears of age and subsequently made his way to England, where he lived for seven years working as a tailor. He most likely married Theresa Dorow before migrating to England.

While in England he took out British citizenship and anglicised his name. Claiming to be a farm labourer, Henry organised for his family to migrate to Australia.They left England on the ship `Star of India' and arrived in Australia on 5 Nov 1877.

Throughout his life in Australia, Henry continued to work as a tailor, and his sons Alfred, Tom and Chris followed in the trade. Henry retired about 1913 and moved to Coffs Harbour. In 1921 Henry and Maria went to America to visit his brother and Maria's son (see transcription of letter in notes attached to Jacob Christian Bohlsen). While he is in America he also visited EDITH BOHLSEN KILMARTIN of Omaha Nebraska; as yet the connection is unknown.

By the time of Henry's return to Australia about Apr 1922 his health had deteriorated. He had to be carried from the ship, and he died the following year. Henry was buried with Masonic honours. ¹³⁶³⁵
