In 1075, Emma, Countess of Norfolk defended Norwich Castle when it was under siege. She eventually negotiated safe passage for herself and her troops in exchange for her castle. 7827

Emma married Raoul (Ralph) DE GAËL Earl of East Anglia, son of Raoul (Ralph) "the Staller" DE GAËL 1st Earl of Norfolk and Unknown. (Raoul (Ralph) DE GAËL Earl of East Anglia was born in 1040 in Gael, Ille-et-Vilaine, Bretagne, France and died about 1096 on the way to Palestine.)
