Relationship to compiler: great, great grandfather
Research Notes:
Born Louis Augustin Casimir SAILLENFAITS.
Married first in England under the surname CASIMIR (to Mary Shepherd),
though the two known children of this marriage retained the surname
SAILLENFAITS. Louis dropped the French ancestral name permanently
on arriving in Australia and marrying Mary Ann Holmes, using his 3rd
given name as his surname..
There is at least a decade of Louis's life unaccounted for-between
the christening of his and Mary Shepherd's 2nd child in 1839 and his
2nd marriage. There is a family tradition that Louis did not get on
at all well with his father; the general tradition speaks of a religious
rift occurring: Louis's French antecedents were Roman Catholic, and
Louis's first marriage was contracted in the Church of England, insofar
as that means anything.

Marriage Information:
Louis married Mary SHEPHERD, daughter of William SHEPHERD and Unknown, on 26 Oct 1835 in St Peter, Church St., Liverpool, England 13357. (Mary SHEPHERD was born about 1814 and died on an unknown date.)
Marriage Notes:
Witnesses to the marriage of Louis Casimir and Mary Shepherd were Thomas Dourd and Jane Denney (her X mark).
A reference to the IGI for children shows two of them registered under Louis's original French surname SAILLENFAITS (orthographic variations: Saillanfaits, Saillanfait, Saillenfest).
Marriage Information:
Louis also married Mary Ann HOLMES, daughter of William HOLMES and Margaret Ann OVERTON, on 1 Dec 1853 in Parish Of St. Lawrence, Sydney, Nsw, Australia 13358. (Mary Ann HOLMES was born on 25 Oct 1829 in Spilsby, Lincolnshire, England 13362, christened on 7 Jan 1830 in Spilsby, Lincolnshire, England 13363 and died on 23 Dec 1899 in Nicholson St., Mudgee, N.S.W., Australia 13364.) The cause of her death was exhaustion.
Marriage Notes:
Marriage conducted in the presence of G.W. HUGHES of Castlereagh St., Sydney, and Emily PURSEY of College St., Sydney.
Louis CASIMIR is indicated to be a batchelor, but only in the sense that Mary HOLMES was his first wife in Australia; otherwise, he was not, given his first marriage in England to Mary SHEPHERD. 13358
