General Notes:
Knight. Son & heir and heir to his uncle Richard in 1415 and to his uncle Sir William. !In the inquisition taken after Bishop Richard Courtenay of Norwich the estates named were Powderham, Plympton, Moreton, Honiton, Alsington and many others. It is highly probable, that in that fatal quarrel between the Houses of York and Lancaster he sided with the House of York; for he had two sons that acted for that house and another son was made Bishop by Edward IV. !In Visitations Vol. 9Co. of Cornwall 1620. Courtney of Penkivel (of Powderham) !Powderham Castle was in the days of Edward II, in the possession of John Powderham, a tanner's son, who alleged that he had been changed for another child in infancy, but was, in fact, the true son of Edward I. Was retroactively proved to be the Earl of Devon of the 1553 Patent. 2002
